No Posts

Hex can't evaluate the following groups due to lack of information presented in their blog:

GROUP NAME: Team EachIBePositive
BLOG POST: http://eachibepositive.wordpress.com/

GROUP NAME: Team Pepe the Explorer
BLOG POST: http://www.pepetheexplorer.blogspot.com/

Group Evaluation: Team Base10

GROUP NAME: Team Base10
BLOG SITE: http://teambase10.blogspot.com/

EVALUATION:

1. In the group's storyboards, they were able to include all the things under the scope of their objective. The games they presented tackles the basics of Math and Science lessons for grade 4 students. Also, it is very nice that they used some Filipino heroes as the characters of their game because this will help their application to be appreciated more by its Filipino children users. If the children are enjoying using this application, surely, its purpose (as stated in the group's objective) will be fulfilled.

2 - 3. As we have read from the group's blog, they are just starting with the application and they are now only 2 in group so basically, we can't still suggest any enhancements with regards to the application itself. But basing it from their well presented storyboard/plan for the application, we would suggest that they just reduce the number of games and condense the topics they want to include or just pick between Math 4 and Science 4. Also, it would be nice if they will use some of our not-so-well-known Filipino heroes and give a little background about them so that the children who will be using it will be made familiar to them. --it will contribute also if the heroes they will use are the ones who really lived and fought in the forests of the Philippines to anchor it with the theme: nature (i.e. Macario Sakay).

Group Evaluation: PAPIGURA

GROUP NAME: PAPIGURA
BLOG SITE: http://papigura-cwts.livejournal.com/

EVALUATION:

1. From what we have read, we believe that the group covered the scope that they want to achieve. There have been also some changes about their main character making it more related, rather more familiar to the Lubang Island school children.

2. We think that their courseware will be more helpful to the students especially when they include the video that they made, in their final project. The video really is educational and they should just make it longer and slower so that the students will appreciate it. Moreover, the students should learn a lot from the videos, not just about the Digestive System but also about morals or values when eating and etc.

3. We haven't seen the whole project actually, only the video that they made. But we think that their courseware should have more fun activities and interactive videos. Make the site more child-friendly.

Group Evaluation: Group Powhz

GROUP NAME: Group Powhz
BLOG SITE: http://cwtsm3grouppowhz.wordpress.com/

EVALUATION:

1. The group did cover the scope that they want to achieve. We believe that their game is great. We think the school kids will really appreciate it for it has some adventure in it. Though it only covers PMDAS, it still Math, and they're giving the kids a new way to enjoy learning Math.

2. For the suggestions or enhancements, the Hex group thinks that the font size that they will use should be bigger for the XO laptops are too small, maybe the kids will find it hard to read the equations and have some mistakes because of the small font. Aside from that, everything seems to be fine.

3. Based on their blog, the Hex group thinks that their project is a good one. But, they should again, make the font size larger, just right for the grade school kids to read it and enough for the size of the XO laptop.

Group Evaluation: Team Woof

GROUP NAME: Team Woof
BLOG SITE: http://teamwoof.wordpress.com/

EVALUATION:

1. Looking from their blog posts, it looks like they were able to include everything they said in their final plan. The courseware will tackle lessons in Science, specifically Marine Science, Earth Science and Astronomy. It seems that their courseware is almost finished.

2-3. We can't suggest anything about the courseware itself yet since there are no screenshots uploaded in the blog. But for the contents of the courseware, we think that they should reduce the amount of questions in the courseware. That's because the questions seem too many. And they should make the questions in such a way that the students can comprehend the questions easily.

Group Evaluation: KARE

GROUP NAME: KARE
BLOG SITE: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=133745953331034&v=wall&ref=ts

EVALUATION:

1. From their posts, we think that they were able to accomplish their objectives on their courseware. The topic that they included is about Mathematics, especially graphs. It's nice that the courseware is student-friendly they used Filipino language in their courseware. Judging from the screenshot they provided, the group successfully put nature as the theme of the courseware.

2-3. Reading the description, we can say that it's good that there is an option for the students to create their own graph. That way, the student can fully grasp the topic/Since their topic is about graphs, we think that they should also include in their courseware the importance of graphs in everyday live.

Group Evaluation: CDR Kingz

GROUP NAME: CDR Kingz
BLOG SITE: http://cdrkings.blogspot.com/

EVALUATION:

1. According to their posts, the group's topics include fractions in Mathematics, Preposition in English and Life Cycle of Animals in Science. Since there's no information about the prototype they're doing (there's no information what their prototype looks like), it's hard to tell if they were able to include their goal in the courseware.

2-3. The group did not include screenshots about their courseware/app, and so we don't have any comments about their courseware, but we have suggestions. They should make their courseware easy for the students to run. Also, they should make it interactive and fun. That way, the students will learn a lot in English, Math and Science, and find learning these subjects enjoyable.

Group Evaluation: M3c

GROUP NAME: Team M3c
BLOG SITE: http://luksongbaka.wordpress.com/

EVALUATION:

1. There are no clear objectives presented in the group's blog. But then if basing on the class' objective, the group's plan and storyboard cover topics in grade 4 and 5 Science and they are to present it in a very interesting application/game.

2-3. We think that it is nice to use the concept of making a humanoid monster as the aim of their game since they are to tackle about the systems of the human body. We suggest to make the "graphics" part of the game child-friendly (draw the body parts in a way that it won't scare the children who will be using it). Also, it would be nice if the game would allow the user to store his/her humanoid monster -- it will become his/her collection. As of now, that's the only comment we can make since no further information about the progress of the application was placed in the blog.

Accomplishments of Hex

It's been a while since our last blog entry. We planned to finish the courseware last semestral break but then, due to some circumstances, we weren't able to do so. Also, we only met up again last Monday, November 22, 2010 during our CWTS class that's why we just started working on this project again.

As of now, the courseware already contains the following:
-trivia per "clickables"
-a specific lesson for each part of the house

The ones that we still need to add are as follows:
-quiz after every lesson presented -- Arisa, Anna, Jasper
-information about the courseware and supporting papers-- Arisa
-general instructions for the user/s -- Anna
-teacher's manual -- Jasper

The project is just a simple courseware since it's only aim is to provide a better way of presenting some grade 4 science lessons. It doesn't have any kind of games in it. But then, if time permits, we will add some interactive game/s or apps to enhance the learning experience of its future users.
The deadline for the working courseware is on December 13, 2010.

Sponsors and Revised Papers

September 6, 2010

At 10am today (Sept. 6), our CWTS class met up to report about the progress of our project to Ma'am Moscatel. She said that we're doing good but she emphasized the importance of always updating our blog. The revised supporting papers are due this Sept. 10 (Friday) and the next meeting is scheduled on Sept. 20. She said that she'll just update us about the final presentation of our project.

Meanwhile, regarding the sponsor/s for the project, the group is still waiting for the response of Smart Communications Inc. And within this week, they will still look for other company/ies to serve as their sponsor for this project.

Layout of the House

The group already talked to Mr. Aljon James Perdon for the layout of the house as well as its different areas/parts. We are expecting that he would finish the drawings by Aug.23 and we shall send in to Ma'am Sheli for approval. Also, on the same day, the group will have a meeting through Yahoo Messenger (Conference) at 8pm. They will talk about how are they going to study HTML 5.0 to be able to program their game.

Budget Planning

Last Aug.11 the group talked about their possible expenses for their trip to Lubang for the distribution of the Laptops. The group chose to travel via Calatagan. The breakdown is as follows:

- bus ride from pasay rotonda to calatagan - Php180.00
- Calatagan terminal to calatagan pier - Php 20.00
- boat ride from Calatagan to Tilik pier - Php 400.00
- jeep ride from Tilik to Lubang - Php 50.00

And if ever that it will be an overnight trip they want to stay in the Bamboo Hut Resort in an Economy Room (P700/room).

(These are all based from the email sent by Ma'am Sheli.)

Storyboard and Paperwork Dues

August 5, 2010

Our group had a meeting held at NIP. We discussed about the storyboard and the paperworks to be passed on August 23, 2010. First, on our storyboard, we discussed about what the clickables are.

In the garden, we have:
sun, cloud, bird, fish, flower and tree.
For the flower, we have a game wherein the player is taught how to plant... plants, and to take care of it.

For the living room, we have:
aquarium, wood, sofa, curtain, fire and clock for our clickables.
We have a game for the aquarium. The game is based on the game "Feeding Frenzy".

For the bathroom, we have:
heater, water, toothbrush, shampoo, air freshener, towel and toilet paper.
For the heater, we have a quiz in which the player is asked which of the flashed pictures produce heat.

For the kitchen, we have:
knife, mortar and pestle, stove, basket of vegetables, sticky notes, salt and faucet.
For the basket of vegetables, we have some sort of a "memory game".

For the dining room, we have:
oreo, chair, glass of milk, apple, salad and spoon and fork.
The game, which we have on salad is about making mixtures.

For the bedroom, we have:
human, bed, light bulb, a portrait, a stray rat, and virus in the air.
The game for the human, is a matching type, wherein the picture of a body part should be matched with the correct name of that body part.

We also have the distribution of the paperworks. Anna will work on the Project Communication Plan Instruction, Jasper will work on the Project Charter Instruction, and Arisa will work on the Project Work Schedule Instruction and Project Budget Instruction.

August 9, 2010

We had a presentation about the storyboard. Ma'am Sheli commented that we should have a nature-themed courseware. So our project is subject to revision. We also noted the deadline of the paperworks (deadline for ourselves). We should have done all the paperworks by August 20, 2010.

Storyboards

Last July 28, our group was supposed to have another conference, but because of some stuff, we were not able to do so. Instead, Arisa sent us a message telling us what to do. We have to do a storyboard for each rooms in the house. We divided the rooms among ourselves:

Arisa - Kitchen and Bathroom
Anna - Garden and Living Room
Jasper - Dining Room and Bedroom

In the storyboard, we have to include what the rooms are supposed to look like. We also have to include what the "clickables" should look like. The artist we talked to will do it on graphics, so we will do the storyboard.

The storyboard we will be working on consists of two pages. The first page is intended for the room, and the second one is for the "clickables." The deadline we set for the storyboard will be on August 7/ August 9.

Idea for the Project

Last Friday night, the Hex group had another conference. We talked about the things that our courseware should have. We already visualized our project D-LIFE's environment to be a house with a lot of things to learn through the different rooms in it. With that, the students will know that they can also discover new things in their homes and not just in school. Anyway, we consider our homes our first school and our parents as our first teachers.

The group decided to make the rooms sort of "clickables", wherein the students can play games while learning and/or watch videos that gives information about a certain topic in Science. The parts of the house that we'll include are the garden, kitchen, bedroom, living room, dining room and the bathroom.

In the living room, Hex decided to put an aquarium where the students can feed the fish. We based the idea of fish feeding from the game Feeding Frenzy. In the bedroom, we'll have a picture of a kid and his/her body systems drawn. Maybe it could be somewhat a matching type game wherein the player should match the body part [word] to the picture. In the bathroom, it'll be a clickable heater then a game will load about the conversion of energy. In the kitchen or the dining, we'll have a memory game that features different food or food mixtures, solutions etc. Lastly the garden, we'll feature an animal and the game would be the right way of taking care of it.

This is what we've discussed during our conference last Friday night. Hex will meet again for another discussion about the storyboard. Hex already found an artist who is willing to draw the story board for the group and we just have to pay for his service.

Oh! And by the way, we already got the mailing address for our hopefully sponsor, Smart, all we need is the finalized letter to sponsors from our instructor, Ma'am Sheli Moscatel.

Project Proposal

At 10 o'clock this morning, we (CWTS M3 students) met up to set the deadlines for the course/subject requirements. The deadlines are as follows:

August 9, 2010 - Storyboard or Course ware Outline
August 23, 2010 - Paperworks (Project Proposal/Management Plan)
September 23, 2010 - Final Presentation (last meeting for the semester)

After which, our group (Hex) convened to finalize the concept of our project. We decided to take Science as the subject matter of our game. We will be discussing topics about human beings, animals and plants based from the Philippines Curriculum for Science and Health given by our instructor. Since the topics concerns "life", we named our project/game "D - LIFE" which means "Discover Lots of Interesting Facts on/about Existence". We ended up by assigning to Jasper Martija the setting up and management of our blog and by scheduling our next meeting on Friday 8pm through Yahoo! Messenger Conference. :D:D:D
